There were 101 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in Meghalaya today, the first time in December with more than a hundred new infections. There were also 169 recoveries, with 148 of these in East Khasi Hills alone, and no new fatalities.
Of the new cases 58 were in East Khasi Hills, 28 in West Jaiñtia Hills, eight in West Garo Hills, three in South West Garo Hills, two in Ri-Bhoi and one each in North Garo Hills and East Garo Hills.
Eleven new infections were reported in West Jaiñtia Hills’ Mihmyntdu cluster. Along with 16 positive tests among high-risk contacts and one other, the district more than doubled its active case count, going from 23 to 49.
In East Khasi Hills, 21 new cases were reported among armed forces/paramilitaries and one among a police personnel. There were also five in the Nongthymmai cluster, three in Laban and two each in Ïewduh, Golflink, Madanrting and Nongrah. Two cases in South West Garo Hills were detected in the Okkapara cluster.
Of the recoveries East Khasi Hills recorded 148, West Garo Hills 13, Ri-Bhoi three, East Garo Hills two, West Jaiñtia Hills two and West Khasi Hills one.
In all, Meghalaya has had 12,511 Covid-19 cases, of which 534 are active, 11,855 have recovered and 122 have died from the virus. The recovery rate is 94.76 percent.
The Health Department also informed that around 1,800 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.
