Four more fatalities from Covid-19 were recorded in Meghalaya today, taking the death toll from the disease in the state to 98.
Jogendar Sharma (82), of Tura, was admitted to Tura Civil Hospital on Nov 7 and tested positive for the virus the same day. He died yesterday morning. The cause of death was Covid-19 with upper gastrointestinal bleeding, shock, Type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
Balajied Kharshiing (41), of Umsning, was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on Nov 3 after testing positive the previous day. He died yesterday afternoon. The cause of death was uraemic encephalopathy (brain disorder brought about by kidney failure) with Covid pneumonia, chronic infection, severe metabolic acidosis (electrolyte disorder), Type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease and hypertension.
Hemarson Marak (54), of Tura, was admitted to Tura Civil Hospital on Nov 8, tested positive the same day and passed away yesterday night. The cause of death was acute respiratory distress syndrome with sepsis and hypertension.
Nowin Karthak Lepcha (58), of Shillong, tested positive for Covid-19 on Nov 9 and was declared brought dead to Shillong Civil Hospital today morning. He had a history of Type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
In addition, there were 144 confirmed new cases of the coronavirus in the state, with 56 recoveries. There are now 1,045 active cases and 9,368 recoveries out of 10,511 total cases.
Ri-Bhoi retook first place in the number of active infections with a total now of 306 after recording 54 new cases today, of which 40 were police personnel. East Khasi Hills recorded 38 new cases, West Khasi Hills 22, West Garo Hills eight, West Jaiñtia Hills six, East Jaiñtia Hills three, South Garo Hills two and South West Garo Hills one.
The new recoveries were divided between West Jaiñtia Hills (27), East Khasi Hills (19), West Garo Hills (four), North Garo Hills (three), East Garo Hills, East Jaiñtia Hills and Ri-Bhoi (one each).
The Health Department also informed that one case migrated from East Khasi Hills to Assam, one transferred from East Khasi Hills to East Garo Hills and one from West Garo Hills to South Garo Hills.
Ri-Bhoi now has 306 active cases, East Khasi Hills 283, West Garo Hills 116, East Garo Hills 101 (the first time it has moved above one hundred), West Jaiñtia Hills (81), East Jaiñtia Hills (64), West Khasi Hills (30), South Garo Hills (28), South West Garo Hills (23), North Garo Hills (12) and South West Khasi Hills (one).
