Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Rossette M. Kurbah today said that the construction of the integrated checkpoint, which will also act as a coronavirus screening centre, at Umling is coming along at pace and will be completed within the 60-day deadline.
It was on October 3 that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced that a prefabricated structure would replace existing plans for an infiltration checkpoint at Umling. He said that this structure would be completed within 60 days.
Kurbah said that there have been several visits and inspections conducted by different parties, including the special committee of the Assembly.
The Meghalaya government has already sanctioned Rs 3 crore for the prefab structure for the entry-exit point at Umling and the construction work has already begun.?
The government decided to shift to prefab structure so that the entry point at Umling is completed at the earliest and the same would be used as entry-point and Covid checkpoint.
The entry-exit points in the State are mandated under the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, which seeks to address influx related issues.
