Sarin, a quaint village of South West Khasi Hills district has all the reasons to rejoice as tap connection will now ensure potable water with the successful installation of water tanks under the Jaal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

An inspection of the successful completion of the project was today carried out by the PHE, Mawkyrwat with officials of the Water Resources and Soil & Water Conservation department of the district along with the Synjuk Ki Seng Samla Shnong.

Junior Engineer of the PHE, T. Lyngkhoi informed that the project which started in August 2019 was completed September this year. Though there was a delay, Lyngkhoi said that the goal can be fully realised with the help of village community leaders.

He said the water supply scheme in Sarin existed since 2010 called the Sarin-Nongkynbah Combined Water Supply Scheme drawing water from two sources at Urnar and Taïuh.

Lyngkhoi mentioned the contribution and dedication of the Village Water & Sanitation Committee and residents of the village in making the project a grant success with a sanctioned of Rs 46 lakh. He said the village now has two water storage tanks for people to avail water.

Emphasising on the importance of safe and adequate potable drinking water as an absolute necessity, Lyngkhoi said, “Water is precious and we need to care about saving water by wasting even a drop.”
