Another FIR was lodged today on the collapse of a wall situated along the National Highway at Umran in Ri Bhoi district following a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall.
This is the third FIR lodged by residents of the state to raise an alarm on the sub-standard construction works along the national highways.
The current police complaint was lodged at Umsning police station by a resident of Syllei-U-Lar (Umroi), Kronding Nongbsap.
Demanding an investigation into the collapse of the wall Nongbsap said that it involves corruption and misuse of public funds and cheating the public.
“I filed this complaint and urge that you investigate, call for DPR, investigate who from the government selected the contract, who signed the measurement book, who was given the contract, what was the cost and book the persons involved in this substandard construction, as per law which has collapsed and put lives in danger.
It may be mentioned that besides Nongbsap separate FIRs were also lodged by social activist Agnes Kharshiing on the collapse of a wall in Sohiong bypass and Sordar of Mawryngkneng village Peter Lawai has against contractors for alleged shoddy work that led to a landslide Shillong By-Pass in Thangshalai.
