A dispute between two villages led to clashes between residents in Ri-Bhoi’s Umsarang and Pynthor Sohma.
The dispute is reportedly due to an argument over whether Pynthor Sohma belongs to Hima Mylliem or Hima Khyrim. Umsarang falls under Mylliem, while Pynthor Sohma is said to be part of Hima Khyrim.
The clash led to cultivated land and houses in Pynthor Sohma being destroyed by Umsarang villagers.
A boundary committee has been constituted by Hima Mylliem and Hima Khyrim. The committee has passed an instruction that there be no new construction until the matter is settled, but Umsarang residents have allegedly not abided with this restriction and are trying to create conflict with residents of Pynthor Sohma.
The damage to property took place on September 23 and the following day an FIR was filed by Pynthor Sohma residents with Umroi police.
