West Garo Hills police arrested a 55-year-old man after he had absconded following an assault on a woman in the village of Sandagre under Gambegre block.
The incident allegedly took place at about 8:30pm on Saturday when the woman, identified as one Grenmi Ch Marak (63), was assaulted by the suspect, Elison M Marak. The assault was so severe that the woman was left bloodied and in a critical state.
The victim was assaulted when she was alone at home, allegedly with either a screwdriver or a car key, with multiple stab wounds to her person. As per the latest reports, the victim has been brought to Tura Civil Hospital and is undergoing treatment. She is currently said to be stable.
