Shillong, Oct 27: In a bid to curb outwards migration and boost employability of rural youth, a Basic Computer and Data Entry Operator Training Centre was inaugurated at Chapahati-I in South West Garo Hills under the Chief Minister’s Skill Mission.
The centre, implemented by the VLE Society with support from the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), aims to bring digital literacy to the doorstep of remote villages.
Inaugurating the centre, Nogorpara MDC Linekar K Sangma said digital skills have become essential in today’s job market and such centres in rural areas will help youth find opportunities locally and reduce distress migration to urban areas.
Additional Deputy Commissioner DBG Momin stressed the need for skill-based education for self-employment and urged the enrolled trainees to maintain regularity and discipline to make the most of the course.
The programme was attended by trainees, parents, VEC members and local leaders. It began with a prayer by the Pamong of Chapahati Local Baptist Church and concluded with a vote of thanks by the Chapahati VEC Secretary.
The centre will now start regular training for the enrolled batch.
