Shillong, Sep 8: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today felicitated Sanfida Nongrum, the ‘Achiever of the Month’ in the sports category at a programme held here.
Speaking during the occasion, Sangma, said the programme is meant to recognise the achievements of different individuals in different fields and appreciate their efforts.
“A few years back the sports sector was facing challenges and difficulties with sports associations carrying on with their activities out of love and passion for the sports with little or no support from the government,” he said, adding that his government has been able to address and streamline some of the challenges in the Sports Department with investments not only in sports infrastructure across the state but also by supporting sports associations, coaches and individuals. “The Sports Policy of the state is not merely a policy document but a vision document that helps and guides us to move forward to achieve our goals.”
Forty-six outstanding sportspersons in various disciplines were felicitated during the programme with the Achiever of the Month in Sports conferred on Sanfida for her remarkable achievements and outstanding contribution to Indian football during the year, which included making her senior national team debut and winning the SAFF Championship.
