Shillong, Sep 7: The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Garo Hills Zone, along with FKJGP Cell of Tura Government College, has petitioned Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui over grievances at Tura Government College.
In a memorandum submitted through Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, the FKJGP said due to continuous increase in students at the college, seating capacity in every department during day shift has become insufficient, forcing many to take admission in morning shift. However, morning shift students face shortage of classrooms and lecturers, it said. Lecturers of the morning shift also face hardships and do not receive salaries regularly, sometimes not for over six months, which demotivates them.
FKJGP sought upgradation of infrastructure and new classroom buildings to avoid limitations in admissions, regularisation of morning shift faculty serving for many years under structured pay system with job security, timely and increased salary as per present norms without six-month delays, improvement of library and laboratory with more books, digital facilities, modern equipment and chemicals, and basic amenities including proper drinking water, clean separate toilets for boys and girls and a functional canteen.
