Shillong, Sep 6: Authorities have cautioned the general public that there could be long traffic delays on Monday within Shillong and along the main route into the city due to the visit of the Vice-President of India.
During the movement of the VVIP convoy, traffic may be “temporarily slowed” along the route from Umiam, Mawlai Mawiong, Golflinks, CRPF junction, Polo, 4th Furlong, IGP, Kachari and Police Bazar.
The hours given by the authorities were between 1:30pm and 6pm, though it was added that traffic restrictions will be imposed only during the movement of the VVIP convoy.
The public was requested to plan their travel accordingly on Monday and Tuesday, allowing additional travel time.
Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan is scheduled to lay the foundation stones for five projects valued at Rs 1,010.95 crore during his trip to the state.
The authorities are mindful of the ferocious public anger in June during the North Eastern Council plenary session where office goers and others were trapped for extended periods of time due to convoys of VVIPs travelling through the city.
