Mawkyrwat, Sep 2: Police in South West Khasi Hills have issued a public notice seeking identification of an unidentified male body recovered from a river under Mawranglang village.
According to the notice issued by the Superintendent of Police on Wednesday, the body, of a male aged around 40 to 50 years, was found on August 29 at about 4:20 pm in a river at Mawranglang, Lai Kyntoit in the district.
Police said the body was found in a highly decomposed condition, lying in a curled position between rocks. It was shifted to Civil Hospital, Shillong, where inquest and post-mortem were conducted.
The deceased is about 5 feet tall and was wearing a navy-blue Adidas half-pant. He was found wearing a bangle and a sacred thread (Taviz) tied around the upper right hand.
Despite efforts, the identity could not be established. Police have requested anyone with information or whose relative or acquaintance is missing to contact the Officer-in-Charge, Mawkyrwat Police Station at mobile number 9863398734 or the Office of the Superintendent of Police, South West Khasi Hills.
