Mawkyrwat, Aug 31: An unidentified male body was recovered from a river at Phodpynton under Mawranglang village, Lai Kyntoit in South West Khasi Hills district on August 29 evening.
Police said the body was found at around 6:10 pm stuck between rocks in a river in a curled position.
The body was highly decomposed with discolouration and maggot activity observed. It was partially clothed with black short pants covering the thigh region while the upper body was exposed. A taweez (small pendant or locket) tied with a thread was found on the upper right hand.
The age of the deceased could not be ascertained and the cause of death is not known due to decomposition.
The body has been shifted to Civil Hospital, Shillong for post-mortem examination.
