Nongpoh/Mawkyrwat, Aug 20: Two separate incidents targeting government property were reported in Meghalaya over the past 24 hours, with a department vehicle gutted in Ri-Bhoi and a petrol bomb thrown at a veterinary office in South West Khasi Hills.
In the early hours of Thursday, a Bolero vehicle belonging to the Water Resources Department, Ri-Bhoi Division, was completely gutted in a fire at the office premises of the Executive Engineer, Water Resources Division, at Saiden.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:30 am when the Bolero bearing registration number ML-01-4464 caught fire while parked in the basement. A two-wheeler parked beside it was also destroyed. Another vehicle, ML-01-5359, parked nearby sustained partial damage.
Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, preventing further damage. No injuries were reported.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Unidentified miscreants lobbed a petrol bomb at the roof of the Veterinary Office in Mawlangwir, South West Khasi Hills District.
The attack came to light after a call was received at Mawkyrwat Police Station at 10:43 am. Staff found the device at around 9:30 am when they arrived for work. No damage was reported.
Police said neighbours heard the explosion, but did not see the culprits.
