Shillong, Aug 19: The Additional Deputy Commissioner & CEO of the District Disaster Management Authority, South West Khasi Hills, has issued an advisory urging the public to exercise caution in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall in the district.
The advisory has been issued to ensure public safety and minimise risks from flooding, landslides and other rain-related hazards.
The DDMA advised residents to avoid travel to flood-prone and landslide-prone areas and to remain indoors during heavy rain. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into rivers or streams during such periods.
Tourists and visitors have been urged to refrain from outdoor activities during heavy rain and to check weather forecasts before planning. Drivers have also been advised to avoid driving through flooded areas and locations vulnerable to landslides.
The Authority further urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement, particularly in areas prone to flooding and landslides, and to follow all advisories issued by the district administration.
