Shillong, Aug 6: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal today informed that the district administration has had five rounds of meetings with various stakeholders on the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA).
According to the DC, three rounds of meetings were held with Rangbah Shnongs, one with traditional chiefs and another with the officials of the Cantonment Board and office of Superintendent of Police.
“The idea of these meetings is to increase awareness to address their apprehensions, concerns and to help them in implementing the act,” Baranwal said.
According to him, in the meeting with the officials from the Shillong Cantonment, the representatives were explained how the MRSSA is to be implemented in the areas under their jurisdiction.
With the Rangbah Shnongs, Baranwal said that “not all” localities are implementing the MRSSA the way it should be. He added that there is a large difference in the actual number of tenants who have submitted their physical forms as per the traditional norms of the localities and how many have been uploaded on the MRSSA portal.
The DC also said that the state government is aiming to make the portal more user friendly.
