Shillong, Aug 5: The Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday noted that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted execution level approval for expansion of the Shillong Airport runway.
The division bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh took on record DGCA’s approval dated August 4, 2026 for expansion towards runway 04 side, including shoulder, RESA and associated works, subject to 10 conditions.
The state informed the court that a meeting was held at the airport on July 30, 2026. It was told that the state had undertaken to remove all obstacles infringing the Obstacle Limitation Surfaces by September 30, 2026.
Additional Advocate General K. Khan assured the court all 10 conditions will be complied with before seeking final permission.
“We expect all the authorities to cooperate with each other and commence with the work of expansion of the Airport at the earliest,” the court said, and asked parties to file a status report on the next date.
The matter will be heard again on September 1, 2026.
