Shillong, Jul 27: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem on Monday said the driver involved in the Golflink road accident that killed two teenagers has been arrested.
An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman were found in a pool of blood on Golflink Road Sunday night. Police suspect the scooter they were riding, bearing registration number ML 05 R 9662, was either hit by another vehicle or collided with one.
Responding to allegations of a delayed police response, Syiem said the claim was incorrect and that police reached the spot within five minutes. He added that authorities are awaiting a report to ascertain whether the couple was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
“Until then, it cannot be concluded who was at fault,” the SP said.
