Nongpoh, Jul 1: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), in collaboration with the PA Sangma International Medical College & Hospital (PIMC) and the IA Ayurvedic Medical College, on Wednesday celebrated National Doctors’ Day 2026, paying tribute to the selfless service and dedication of doctors as frontline healthcare professionals.
The programme, organised at the USTM campus under the theme “Behind the Mask: Who Heals the Healer?”, was attended by USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Vice Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma, Padma Shri Dr. Sarbeswar Sahariah, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) A.C. Kataki, Director of Medical Administration Dr. Jogesh Sharma, Director of Medical Education and Research Dr. H.K. Sharma, Principal of PIMC Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma, senior doctors, faculty members, medical students and other dignitaries.
To acknowledge their outstanding contribution to healthcare, senior doctors and faculty members were felicitated for their lifelong commitment to the medical profession. The university also honoured the pioneering doctors who played a key role in the establishment and growth of the PA Sangma International Medical College & Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries described doctors as the true frontline warriors who dedicate their lives to saving others, often working under immense pressure and challenging circumstances. They stressed that the greatest achievement of a doctor lies not only in curing diseases but also in restoring hope and improving the quality of life of patients.
The speakers also expressed confidence that the medical college and hospital at USTM would continue to emerge as a centre of excellence in healthcare through modern medical infrastructure, advanced technology and the upcoming Super Speciality Health Care Centre, which is expected to further enhance healthcare services in the region.
As part of the celebration, USTM distributed Premium Health Cards to journalists, enabling them to avail themselves of medical consultations, treatment and medicines at concessional rates at the hospital. The initiative was introduced as a token of appreciation for the vital role played by media professionals in serving the public and disseminating information in the interest of society.
