Shillong, Jun 27: Hasebinson Marwein and Marqueenless Ramsiej won the men’s and women’s events respectively at the 7th Shillong 10K Run 2026, which was organised by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) here today morning.
The annual event is held on a Saturday close to 23 June, which is observed as International Olympic Day to mark the foundation of the International Olympic Committee in 1894. Races of 10km are held all over the world and Shillong has consistently seen hundreds of runners from teenagers to senior citizens take part every year. The race was made possible with the help of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, East Khasi Hills district administration, Police Department and dozens of volunteers.
Hasebinson led a tight men’s field to the finish line, where he was followed into second place by 2024 winner Wanbok L Mawphlang. Although he fell away a little towards the end, Junom Phawa took a commendable third place.
The women’s category was won by Marqueenless, who returned to the top of the podium after last winning this race in 2024. One of Meghalaya’s standout long distance runners, she was also third twice – in 2022 and 2023. In second place this year was Jidalin Tympuin, while Maryqueen Pale finished third.
The two winners both received Rs 5,000 each, with the second-placed and third-placed finishers netting Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 each respectively. There were also consolation prizes for those who finished between fourth to eighth and, in addition, all runners above 55 years were presented with a token of appreciation by the MSOA.
The race was flagged off by Indian long distance legend Binningstar Lyngkhoi and international medal-winning karateka Damang Syngkon; the latter is also the new East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer. Also present on the occasion were MSOA Working President John F Kharshiing and General Secretary Finely L Pariat. They both encouraged the runners to consider entering the Sohra International Half Marathon 2026 (which will also see 10km and 5km events) on 4 September. Registration will open for that race on 1 July, with entries capped at 11,000.
