Shillong, Jun 20: The statehood day of West Bengal was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural fervor on Saturday at the Durbar Hall, Lok Bhavan in Shillong.
The event brought together dignitaries, members of the Bengali community, artists, and invitees, all gathering to honour the rich heritage of West Bengal.
Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, H.C. Chaudhary delivered the welcome address, emphasising the historical, cultural, and intellectual contributions of West Bengal to the nation. He underscored the significance of commemorating India’s rich diversity and shared heritage.
Chaudhary said the event served as a reminder of India’s unity in diversity, reaffirming a commitment to the ideals of national integration and the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
The celebration featured a special video message from Governor of West Bengal R.N. Ravi, which was followed by an audio-visual presentation showcasing the state’s vibrant culture, history, and heritage.
The cultural segment included performances such as a Bengali patriotic song, the lively folk dance ‘Damali,’ and a traditional dance by the Gitanjali Dance Academy.
A highlight of the evening was a soulful rendition by Amit Paul, renowned singer and first runner-up of Indian Idol Season 3, who added a special touch to the festivities.
