Shillong, Jun 9: The All Selsella NGOs’ Alliance has called on the Health and Family Welfare Department to set up an intensive care unit (ICU) at the Selsella Community Health Centre (CHC) in West Garo Hills.
“It is a matter of grave concern that, despite catering to a vast population of Selsella and its adjoining rural and border areas, Selsella CHC does not have an ICU for the treatment and management of critically ill patients,” the letter from the alliance said.
The absence of such a vital healthcare facility has caused immense hardship to the public, particularly during medical emergencies requiring intensive monitoring and life-support systems, it added. The people of Selsella are often compelled to travel long distances to Tura or other referral hospitals for critical care treatment. Such delays in obtaining specialised medical attention frequently endanger human life.
