Shillong, Jun 6: A capacity building training programme was held for staff of One Stop Centres for Women (OSCs), designed to equip them with essential skills and knowledge to better serve women in need.
The programme, held at the Working Women’s Hostel in Tura, was organised by the Meghalaya State Commission for Women with participation of case workers, counsellors, and other staff members representing various OSCs across all districts in the Garo Hills region.
A special emphasis during the session was placed on adopting a survivor-centric approach in service delivery, ensuring that the needs and rights of women are prioritised.
Remy Nelson Kharbteng, the State Mission Coordinator for Mission Shakti at the Social Welfare Department, delivered a session emphasising the importance of understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by women.
Dr. Mitul M Sangma, a Senior Specialist in Forensic Medicine and District Medico Legal Adviser, contributed expert insights into the medical and legal aspects pertinent to supporting survivors.
Speaking at the programme, MSCW Vice Chairperson Hemaritha Ch. Sangma said OSCs play a crucial role in providing integrated support to women facing violence and underlined the need for continuous training to improve service delivery.
Participants discussed practical challenges and best practices in handling cases, organisers said.
