Shillong, May 25:  An awareness session took place for 150 students at Kwor Dolloi Secondary School in Raliang focusing on how to report cybercrimes without hesitation and child marriage kills education.

The programme was organised by the Raliang Police Station for Classes VII to X students, the group considered most active online and vulnerable to early marriage dropouts.

Officer-in-charge, Sub-Inspector W. Jala emphasized the vital role that teachers and parents play in ensuring the safety and security of young individuals. He pointed out that guidance from adults is essential in helping students navigate the complexities of the online environment.

The session underscored the importance of educating students on the risks associated with online activities and provided practical tips for maintaining their safety.

During the session, students learned about various types of cyber crimes and were made aware of the legal provisions under the child marriage act.

The police highlighted that the rising cases of school dropouts due to early marriage are a growing concern

. The awareness drive not only focused on the impact of child marriage on education but also its broader implications on health and overall wellbeing, aiming to foster a more informed and responsible youth.
