Shillong, May 15: The district administration of South West Garo Hills has banned the movement of heavy vehicles over a bridge at Betasing on the Garobadha-Dalu road.
A prohibitory order under section 163 of the BNSS was issued by District Magistrate Anendya Raajsshre after an assessment was conducted by the executive engineer for the PWD (Roads) in the Ampati division, which revealed serious deterioration of the bridge approach.
Authorities are apprehensive that continuation of heavy vehicle movement could further weaken the structure and possibly lead to collapse.
The administration has placed an immediate ban on all heavy vehicles, which include loaded trucks, buses, tankers, tippers, dumpers, and other overloaded commercial vehicles, from crossing the bridge until it is repaired.
An alternate route for diverted vehicles has been notified. Heavy vehicles have been directed to travel from Betasing to Ishaguri via the PMGSY Road, proceed to Mirjumla through the Garobadha-Mankachar Road, and then continue to Ampati via the Ampati-Mankachar Road.
The district magistrate has cautioned that any violation of this prohibitory order will result in legal action under the relevant provisions of law.
