Shillong, May 9: An awareness programme on balanced use of fertilizers was organized by ICAR-KVK, West Garo Hills as a part of the intensive, nationwide campaign on the “Balanced Use of Fertilizers” initiated by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in April 2026.
This campaign focuses on adoption of science-based nutrient management and other input management to enhance soil health and crop productivity.
The programme was coordinated by KVK expert Dr. Sagarika Borah. She emphasised on use of organic fertilizers like vermicompost, green manure, cow dung, poultry droppings etc. to make farming sustainable by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers.
She also motivated participants to prepare Jeevamrit, which is a microbial culture prepared from the on-farm inputs like cow dung, urine, jiggery and pulse flour, has been found a suitable formulation in natural farming to meet the nutritional demands of the crops.
During the programme, around 25 villagers from Sangsanggre village were present.
