Shillong/Nongpoh/Jowai, May 4: The Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBOSE) declared the Class 12 HSSLC results for the Science, Arts and Commerce Streams today.

In the Science stream, Dechro M Marak of Don Bosco School, Tura secured first position with 472 marks, while Amos Chinminlun of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School came second with 470 marks and Vishal Rai of

Laban Bengalee Higher Secondary School got third position with 464.

Out of the 3,732 science candidates who appeared, 3,124 passed (83.70 percent).

In the Arts stream, Meghashree Roy of St Mary’s Higher Secondary School got the first position with 457 marks, Joziah Daman Laloo of St Anthony’s was second with 452 and third position was claimed  by Nakisakahuni M Pakyntein, also of St Anthony’s, with 446.

There were 23,559 students who appeared for the Arts stream exams, out of which 20,882 (88.63 percent) passed.

In the Commerce stream Priya Ghosh of St Edmund’s achieved the top position with 458 marks, while Ankita Das and Rishika Debnath, both of St Anthony’s, were placed second and third with 453 and 452 marks respectively.

The Commerce Stream had 2,463 candidates of which 2,155 (87.49 percent) passed.

The pass percentages are higher this year than in 2025. Last year the figures were 82.94 percent in Science, 82.05 percent in Arts and 81.28 percent in Commerce.

Fr Anthony Kharkongor, Principal of St Anthony’s, said that he was proud of the school, which has 13 position holders across the three streams. According to the Principal, success is not merely about marks or ranks but it is as much about perseverance, dedication, commitment and the hard work of the students, teachers and parents.

Sr Sonia Chacko, Principal of St Mary’s, said that the success is due to consistent hard work, discipline and strong commitment of the teachers and students. She also stated that the school not only celebrates ranks, but the success of every individual according to their own calibre and potential.

Ghosh thanked her parents, teachers and her brother, stating that they played a significant role in not only shaping her academically but also instilling moral values and ethics, which she says will carry her forward in her life.

According to the Commerce topper, consistency was the key and her teachers were her constant motivation. Contrary to fears, she said that social media helped her a lot and played a significant role in her general knowledge, adding that its effect depends on how one uses the medium.

Arts topper Roy praised her school for nurturing and guiding her throughout and added that her parents supported her with all the resources needed. Roy, who wants to pursue Political Science in Delhi University, said that social media is as important as other study materials and it played a role in her success with it being her “go-to platform” for “guidance”.

Meanwhile, there was great cheer in Ri-Bhoi as two students from the district made it to the Top 10 in the Arts stream.

The achievers were Swastika Giri of Little Star Higher Secondary School, Baridua, who secured the fifth position with 440 marks, and Starwell Ronghang of St Paul’s Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh, who secured ninth place with 433 marks.

Teachers and students of both institutions celebrated the achievement with great enthusiasm, expressing their joy over the outstanding performance of the two students who have brought recognition to their schools.

Giri, along with her fellow students, credited the school authorities for their support, particularly acknowledging counsellor Megha Sharma for her guidance and encouragement in helping them achieve their goals.

Meanwhile, at St Paul’s, teachers rushed to congratulate Ronghang as soon as they learned about his Top 10 ranking. When attempts to reach him by phone failed, they personally went to his residence to bring him to the school, where he was warmly received and honoured on campus.

The boy expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, his teachers, parents and family members for their constant support. He shared that his success was the result of consistent hard work, often dedicating 10–12 hours daily to his studies, especially in the lead-up to the examinations.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma extended his congratulations to students who cleared the HSSLC exams and described the results as “encouraging”.
