Shillong, Apr 27: Goods-laden trucks and commercial vehicles plying over the Dawki Bridge have been reminded to restrict their capacity to a maximum of 9 metric tonnes.
In an order under Section 163 of BNSS passed on April 6, which was shared with the media today, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Pynursla Gautam Warjri said trucks have resorted to overloading which is in complete disregard to the prohibitory order issued on June 12, 2024 and June 24, 2019.
“Violations of such a degree, if not deterred and regulated, may lead to incidents resulting in the collapse of such bridges with the resultant effect of a connectivity shut-down and further endangering human lives and resources,” the order said.
All drivers and owners have been directed to load as per permissible limit. Any violation will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the Motor Vehicles (MV) act, 1988 and other provisions of the law, the order added.
