Nongpoh, Apr 8: Following reports circulating on social media platforms suggesting that Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem may switch allegiances from the United Democratic Party (UDP) to the National People’s Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 state elections, the NPP’s Nongpoh block unit today clarified that no such discussions have taken place so far.
NPP Nongpoh block president Henry Nongrum and general secretary Bishar Tmung issued a statement today saying that the party is focused on strengthening its base across the entire constituency rather than thinking about the next election.
The block committee also expressed confidence that the NPP state unit will take into account the sentiments of the local unit. They highlighted that Rona Khymdeit, the sitting MDC from Nongpoh, has brought honour to the NPP by securing victory after a long gap and credited the success in the 2025 MDC elections to the dedicated efforts of the block committee along with strong support from the people of Nongpoh constituency.
