Shillong, Apr 5: The Department of Information Technology at Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) organised an outreach programme at Khliehasem village to raise awareness about the growing influence of social media across different generations.
The programme was led by BCA fourth semester students on the topic ‘Ka Social Media bad ka Jingioh bynta jong ka haki pateng bapher bapher’.
The students interacted with the local community and explained both the positive and negative effects of social media, including improved communication and access to information, as well as challenges like misinformation, addiction, reduced personal interaction and its impact on daily life among youth, adults and the elderly.
To make the session more engaging, the students also performed a skit that portrayed real-life situations influenced by social media. The performance delivered strong messages on digital awareness and responsible usage, and was well received by the villagers, a press release stated.
