Shillong, Mar 31: The Department of Sociology, Sankardev College today hosted a hybrid mode workshop on ‘Revisiting Gender: Sociological Perspectives, Lived Experiences and Social Transformation’ in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).
MSCW chairperson Iamonlang Syiem, Prof. Maitreyee Chaudhuri, former Professor of Center for the Study of Social Systems (CSSS), Jawaharlal Nehru University, Dr. Rashi Bhargava, Assistant Professor, NEHU, and Dr. Simashree Bora, Assistant Professor, Cotton University participated in the workshop.
The discussion centred on the theme, ‘Khasi matrilineality and gender-based violence’.
The speakers emphasised on the importance of having discussion around gender especially in the Northeastern states and matrilineal communities.
Faculty and students from various colleges and universities of the state participated in the workshop.
