Shillong, Mar 25: The three-day training programme for district and charge officials of South West Khasi Hills District for Phase I – House-Listing Operations (HLO) of Census 2027 concluded today at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mawkyrwat.
In his address, Deputy Commissioner Barnari Mawlong highlighted the significant role of technology in the upcoming digital census, noting that the use of mobile applications and web portals will considerably reduce the workload and improve efficiency.
He further stated that the provision for self-enumeration by the public will enhance the accuracy of data collection. Urging all participants to make the most of the training, he emphasised the importance of ensuring that all concepts and operational aspects are effectively disseminated to field-level functionaries for the successful conduct of the census in the district.
The training sessions were conducted by Aibor Sanglyne, Deputy Director, along with other officials from the Directorate of Census Operations Meghalaya.
The training aimed to equip officials with comprehensive knowledge of HLO concepts, digital data collection procedures, and monitoring mechanisms.
The Census of India 2027 will be conducted in two phases: Phase I – House Listing and Housing Census, and Phase II – Population Enumeration.
Phase I for Meghalaya is scheduled to be conducted from May 16 to June 14, for a period of 30 days.
Additionally, the public will have the option of self-enumeration through a dedicated web portal from May 1 to May 15, 2026.
The second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled to be conducted in February 2027.
