Shillong, Mar 20:  A man was found dead inside his home with multiple injuries and a fire broke out in a clothing shop in West Garo Hills, police said today.

“Both the incidents have no connection with the ongoing law and order situation arising out of the recent communal disturbances in the district,” West Garo Hills police said in a statement.

The two incidents occurred on March 19.

The statement sought to clarify that the incidents are isolated and public are urged not to link them with the communal issues or spread unverified information.

According to police, a FIR was lodged that one Abdul Akher Shah (45) was found dead inside his home at Kasharipara under Hallidayganj Police Station. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress to ascertain the facts and identify the persons involved, police said.

In Kalithan, Puskunipara near Chibinang a fire broke out in a clothing shop, which later spread to a tailor shop and a nearby SBI CSP outlet, reportedly due to a suspected short circuit.

The Fire & Emergency Services responded promptly and managed to control the fire in time, preventing it from spreading to nearby shops, the statement added.
