Shillong, Jan 20: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has accused North East Security Services (NESS), a private security agency, of going beyond the remit of its trading licence to secure a contract to provide services at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Sohra.
Today the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the KHADC, Tony Winston Lyngdoh, informed that the district council had issued the trading licence to NESS for providing security at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Laitkor.
“While, issuing the trading licence for providing security services at Kendriya Vidyalaya, we mentioned very clearly the company’s area of operation,” Lyngdoh said.
The CEM said that NESS used a photocopy of a certificate issued by the council for filing GST returns and submitted this to NIT Sohra to apply for providing security services there.
Lyngdoh said that the private security firm did not apply for a trading licence to provide security at NIT Sohra. “The KHADC provides trading licence based on the work order a firm receives,” the CEM added.
The council will also seek an explanation from NIT Sohra as to how it awarded the tender to NESS when the latter did not have a valid trading licence.
