Shillong, Jan 18: The Meghalaya Gymnastics Association (MGA) sent a contingent of young gymnasts to represent the state at the National School Games Artistic Gymnastics Championship 2025–26, which was organised by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
The event ran from January 15 to 17 in Kolkata.
The Meghalaya U-17 contingent comprised Bakmenhun Shangpliang, Sa-i Bakor K Tariang, Raffellia Malngiang, Wansuk Mery Susngi, Wansaphi Bernadette Malngiang and Athilia Susngi. The team was coached by Idalin Malngiang and Lucy Mary Malngiang was the manager.
Although the team did not secure medals on this occasion, the performance of the gymnasts showed remarkable improvement, the MGA said in a press release today. “Participation in such a prestigious national platform has provided invaluable exposure, enabling the athletes to showcase their skills, gain competitive experience and measure themselves against the best gymnasts in the country,” it added.
The MGA remains confident that this experience will significantly contribute to the future growth and success of gymnastics in Meghalaya.
The association also thanked the Director of Sports and Youth Affairs for generous sponsorship and continued support to gymnastics in the state.
