Shillong, Dec 16: The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), South West Garo Hills, celebrated a grand certificate distribution ceremony for the successful trainees of various trades trained under the Skills Meghalaya Project and ISBSDP (Inter State Border Area Development Programme) in Ampati on Monday.
Altogether 217 trainees were trained in various trades ranging from food processing to Bakery from July 21 to November 14 this year.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Mahendraganj MLA Sanjay A Sangma and the Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills Hema Nayak, among other dignitaries.
As informed by Skill Development Officer, MSSDS, Tesilchi Ch Sangma, in her keynote address, 80 percent of the target allocated for 2025-26 had been achieved through various skilling activities in the district by December 2025. Some trainees have already started earning a generating income, promoting self-sustainability.
The project aims to empower the youth of Meghalaya with industry-related skills, enhancing their employability and contributing to the state’s economic growth. MSSDS also offers job placement services, both domestically and overseas, ensuring that aspirants have better job opportunities beyond government jobs.
Training and Placement Partners (TPPs) of SWGH district include S&J Homemade Products, Wa’dak Boldak Handicrafts Group and Chachon SHG.
Addressing the gathering Sanjay Sangma urged the participants to utilise their skills and, if need be, contact their local leaders for guidance. He congratulated the certified trainees and later handed over training completion certificates to the trainees.
Appreciating the huge turnout at the certificate distribution ceremony, the DC informed the gathering that the district administration has been conducting similar skill development programmes under various departments for the past few years. She stated that the programmes under the MSSDS are unique because it enables trainees who have completed their respective courses to transform traditional skills into marketable assets.
