Shillong, Oct 31: ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Garo Hills organised a fingerling distribution and training programme at Aminda Simsang village under the Front Line Demonstration (FLD) programme to promote scientific aquaculture practices among rural fish farmers.
As part of the initiative, a total of 120 kg of fish fingerlings comprising Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Jayanti Rohu, Amur Carp, and Pabda were distributed among 18 fish farmers of the village.
The objective of the programme was to introduce scientifically selected fish species suitable for composite fish culture under local pond conditions, with the aim of enhancing fish productivity and improving farmers’ income.
A training session on best aquaculture practices was conducted to strengthen the farmers’ technical knowledge and management skills. Farmers were also sensitised about species compatibility, supplementary feeding schedules, and the role of sustainable aquaculture practices in long-term productivity.
