Shillong, Oct 31: A one-day stakeholders’ meeting on “Scientific Cultivation Practices for Sustainable Production of Arecanut and Cocoa” was organized at the Farmers’ Training Centre, Chokpot C & RD Block, jointly by KVK South Garo Hills, CAU (Imphal) and ICAR–Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod, Kerala.
Dr. Tanya R. Marak, Head in charge highlighted the importance of adopting scientific and sustainable farming methods for arecanut and cocoa to improve productivity and income.
Block Development Officer JN Sangma, who attended the meeting, emphasised the government’s continued support for agricultural development and the need for collaborative efforts between research institutions and farmers.
Four technical sessions were conducted on advanced cultivation techniques, pest and disease management, and post-harvest handling of arecanut and cocoa.
A method demonstration on the preparation and application of Bordeaux Mixture was also carried out which provided hands-on learning to farmers about effective disease management in plantation crops
