Shillong, Oct 30: The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has complained to the state government regarding the delay in the renewal of contracts by the Department of Civil Defence and Home Guards for deploying personnel in various central government offices and public sector undertakings in Meghalaya.
In a letter submitted to Civil Defence and Home Guards Minister Brening A Sangma, FKJGP senior vice-president, Elton Cliff Warjri, said that contrary to the existing arrangement, these offices are now engaging security personnel from private agencies and retired army personnel, adversely affecting local civil Defence and Home Guards.
Warjri in the letter stated that the Civil Defence and Home Guards personnel have been regularly providing security services to government, private and public organisations within the state. “We hope that the government will take immediate action to address this issue and renew the contracts for the benefit of the people of the state,” Warjri stated.
