Shillong, Oct 15: The state cabinet has approved the regularisation of over 1,000 nurses who were appointed on an ad hoc basis against sanctioned posts before December 2007.
After chairing the meeting today, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed reporters, “We have approved the regularisation of the cadres under the Meghalaya Nursing Service Appointment to the post of staff nurse and auxiliary nurse and midwife.”
He informed that the government had also regularised over 3,000 employees appointed on an ad hoc basis against sanctioned posts before December 2007, based on a Supreme Court’s ruling in 2022. Later, a list of more people who were eligible and fell into that category was brought to the cabinet and they were also regularised.
The CM further explained, “Similarly, today the Health Department brought a list of close to 1,000 nurses who are also in the same category, appointed before December 2007 against sanctioned posts but in an ad hoc manner. Following the same yardstick and rules applicable to other employees appointed in a similar manner, the cabinet has decided to regularise those who were appointed on an ad hoc basis against sanctioned posts before December 2007.”
Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved the framing of technical, financial and social service rules for municipalities in Meghalaya. These reforms are in line with the directions and suggestions given by the central government, aiming to improve governance and urban management across the state.
The cabinet also approved amendments to the Meghalaya Building Bylaws based on recommendations from the Centre. These amendments focus on improving land management, streamlining permission processes and allowing for more space in building construction to increase land value.
Additionally, the cabinet discussed the report of the Meghalaya State Education Commission, which was submitted and presented to the members. While the report was accepted, the cabinet has asked the Education Department to review each recommendation, identify actionable items and propose a way forward. The cabinet will then decide on the implementation of the report’s suggestions.
