Shillong, Sep 29:Meghalaya Police will now have access to data from the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) to monitor illegal activities, as the state government moves to strengthen the Directorate of Prosecution.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who holds the Home portfolio, said the government has appointed a full-time Director for the Directorate of Prosecution and is also seeking additional specialist staff, including Assistant Public Prosecutors, to enhance its capabilities.
Tynsong added that data collected at the ICCC will now be shared with the police for monitoring and action against unlawful activities.
Earlier, a conference of top police officers that was attended by Tynsong and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, focused on the progress and future plans of the newly formed Anti-Terror Squad (ATS).
During the meeting, heads of various police units presented updates on cybercrime, new criminal laws, anti-infiltration measures and efforts to curb drug trafficking in Meghalaya.
The conference also reviewed the functioning of the police headquarters, highlighting gaps in manpower, financial resources and operational efficiency.
