Shillong, Aug 8: The North East telecom circle has achieved a milestone in the adoption of 5G fixed wireless access (FWA), crossing the 65,000 subscriber mark as per the latest Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report for June 2025.
The region added over 3,000 new FWA customers in a single month, taking the total subscriber base to 65,196 in June, up from 62,157 in May, a release from JioAirFiber, one of the operators in this sector, said in a release today.
With FWA, high-speed wireless internet is possible without the need for last-mile fiber infrastructure, which can be challenging and expensive to set up in remote, hilly and sparsely populated areas, such as those found in the North East.
The North East telecom circle covers Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.
