Shillong, Aug 6: The Provisional Town Vending Committee (PTVC) will form a sub-committee for claims and objections on assertion that some of the eligible hawkers have not been issued certificates of vending (CoV) while those ineligible were granted.
The PTVC met today after hawker groups had demanded that it be convened. The last such PTVC meeting was in June.
It was earlier decided that those eligible for CoVs, should possess a Meghalaya voter ID and should have been a hawker for not less than six months. Those selling food should also possess an FSSAI licence and a medical certificate from a competent doctor. Non-tribal hawkers must also be in possession of a trading licence in Sixth Schedule areas.
Meanwhile, Tellme Nongbri, secretary of the Shillong Roadside Hawkers Association, said that the PTVC meeting went off smoothly.
Nongbri said that the PTVC will be convened once again wherein the issue of non-issuance of CoVs to eligible hawkers will be taken up.
“In today’s meeting we discussed other issues, which were many,” she said while expressing satisfaction with today’s meeting.
Angela Rangad, adviser of the Meghalaya and Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors’ Association, was also in attendance.
