Principal secretary of health, Sampath Kumar has stated that 95 per cent of chronic diseases in Meghalaya is contributed by eating habits and urged people to get an annual medical check-up to ensure a healthy life.
Speaking at the ‘East Right’ mela held at the premises of the State Central Library here today he said such melas is necessary to sensitise the public about the benefits of “eating right or eating healthy.”
He informed about the State Health Policy and said it encompasses three essential factors of preventive or promoting health, curative and enabling.
He stressed on the need for physical exercises in order to tackle illnesses and praised the Office of the Commissionerate of Food Safety for conducting a walkathon which will go a long way in motivating the public to engage themselves in promoting physical activities in their daily life.
Earlier today, the office also organised a walkathon under the theme, “Walk for Health” from Madan Iewrynghep which culminated at the premises of the State Central Library to sensitize the public about the importance of good health and how to combat negative nutritional trends to fight lifestyle diseases.
