Shillong, Jul 25: Out of 45,922 total applicants for Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET), about 95.56 per cent of teachers appeared for the examination for both papers I and II conducted by the Directorate of Educational Research & Training (DERT).
DERT Chairman J. U. Kharpuri said the test was conducted on Friday at 58 venues across all districts and sub-divisions of the state. Paper I is for classes I to V and Paper II for classes VI to VIII.
A total of 23,101 candidates applied for Paper I and 22,821 for Paper II. Attendance stood at 95.23 per cent for Paper I and 95.89 per cent for Paper II, Kharpuri said.
As per NCTE norms, qualifying TET is mandatory for appointment of teachers for classes I to VIII. DERT said the high turnout reflects enthusiasm among aspiring teachers and commitment of in-service teachers.
The department said the examination was conducted in a “fair and transparent manner” and results will be announced in due course. The Education Department has appreciated the cooperation of all stakeholders for the smooth conduct of MTET 2026.
