Another eight hopefuls filed their nomination papers to stand for election in the upcoming February 27 Assembly polls in Ri-Bhoi today.
Yesterday, the Congress Party became the first to file nominations for four candidates.
Today, it was followed by five from the National People’s Party’s (NPP), one from the HSPDP (Hill State People’s Democratic Party), the last remaining Congress candidate and one from the People’s Democratic Front (PDF).
From the NPP side these were sitting Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, Magdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong for Umsning, the sitting Umsning MLA Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, Shemphang Lyngdoh for Mawhati and Damanbait Lamare for Umroi.
The others were Primson Makdoh (HSPDP) for Umsning, Donlang Sohkhlet (PDF) for Umsning and Adrian L Chyne Mylliem (Congress) for Jirang.
Meanwhile, in South West Khasi Hills, two candidates filed their papers for the Mawkyrwat seat – Carnes Sohshang (Congress) and H Stalin Diengdoh (NPP). Four people did so for Ranikor, including sitting MLA Pius Marwein (UDP). The others were Victorealness Syiemlieh (Congress), Mighter Marwein (independent) and Krenath Marak (independent).
