The State government has said that construction of the solid waste processing and disposal plant for Jowai and Khliehriat has been completed to the extent of 70 per cent as at September 4.
The solid waste processing plant set up at Khliehriat will handle ten tons of waste per day.
The government filed a report on the progress of the solid waste processing plant during hearing of a PIL filed by the Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong Jowai in the division bench of the Meghalaya High Court today.
“It is hoped that scheduled date of completion by the end of the year is adhered to,” the High Court said.
The court also listed the matter for hearing on October 17.
It may be mentioned that the Urban Affairs Department has started the work for construction of a solid waste processing and disposal plant of 10 tons per day at Khliehriat at an estimated cost of Rs13.37 crore.
The plant will cater to the needs of both Jowai and Khliehriat, the district headquarters of West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills respectively.
