Shillong Traffic Police (STP) caught seven motorbikers in the last 48 hours who had illegally modified their exhaust pipes to produce excessive noise.
Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem said that modified/altered exhausts cause “nuisance and inconvenience”.
The motorbikes stopped by the STP had their modified exhausts removed and replaced with the originals, Syiem added, and the bikers were fined.
He said that the drive against illegally modified exhausts will continue and he urged that all motor vehicles with such exhausts have theirs replaced with the originals.
