Shillong, Oct 21: Seven suspects were arrested in two separate drug busts in West Garo Hills on October 18.
At around 9am, a joint team from the ANTF and personnel of Araimile Police Station, Sadar Police Station and 120 Bn CRPF conducted road checks at Upper Damalgre.
During the operation, a bus (ML 14A 1976) coming from Garobadha towards Tura was intercepted. Three suspected persons, identified as Ajay Debnath (24), Niranjan Chakraborty (28) and Suman Sen (26), all residents of Babupara, Tura, were detained.
In the presence of independent witnesses necessary formalities under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were observed and upon searching, 22 vials containing suspected heroin weighing a total of 2.1g were recovered from their possession and seized.
In a follow-up operation on the same day, based on inputs, another team intercepted an auto rickshaw (ML 08G 7906) near Dadenggre. Four persons, namely Prosonjit Dalu, Kriston A Sangma, Sengbath Ch Momin and Sonu A Sangma, were apprehended.
During the search, after completing all legal formalities, a mixture of narcotics was recovered.
These included 42 strips of Senspas capsules (a pain relief medicine) containing 1,008 capsules, weighing 388.08g, seven vials of a brown-orange power suspected to be heroin, weighing 0.61g, and 10 strips of P-Neitra/10mg tablets, totalling 99 tablets, weighing 0.99g.
