Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya successfully intercepted and apprehended multiple individuals attempting to cross or having crossed the international border illegally.
BSF troops intercepted four Bangladeshi nationals along the international border in West Jaintia Hills and, in a separate operation, jawans nabbed two more Bangladeshi nationals near the international border in South Garo Hills. Personnel of the 4th and 1st Battalions were involved in these operations.
The apprehended individuals were subsequently handed over to the concerned police stations for further legal proceedings.
The authorities ascertained that the two Bangladeshis in the South Garo Hills incident had inadvertently entered Indian territory. Of the others, the BSF said “some” (without giving the exact number) had been working as masons in Maharashtra, while one of the women detainees had travelled to Mumbai for medical treatment for her husband.
